Only you can determine who owns your node

SecurityEdge Node

A credential issued for one node could set the owner of another, changing whose profile, leaderboard place, referral progress and earnings it counted toward. An existing node's owner now changes only under its own key or through a device approval.

Until now, a credential issued for one node could set the owner of a different node. That meant a node could end up counted toward someone who didn’t run it.

Now, only a node’s owner decides whose profile, leaderboard place and referral progress it counts toward, and whose earnings it will count toward once payouts begin.

From 2026-10-13, the owner of an existing node changes only in two ways: under that node’s own key, or through a device approval in the portal. An owner change sent by anyone else is ignored. A brand new node still takes the owner it enrolls with, as before.

What changes for you

  • Nothing is refused. A request that tries to set an owner it has no right to set is still accepted, but the node’s owner is left as it was.
  • A node that already has the right owner is not affected. Its registrations and check-ins carry on exactly as before.
  • Moving a node to a new owner still works. Approving the device again in the portal moves it, as it always has.

Limits

  • The fix doesn’t check backward. It closes the gap from 2026-10-13 on. It doesn’t check whether the gap was ever used before then.
  • A node running under an overridden node ID keeps its current owner. If you’ve set your node to run under an ID other than the one it enrolled with, its own requests can no longer change its owner. Nothing is lost: it keeps the owner it has. To move such a node to a new owner, approve the device again in the portal.

What you need to do

Nothing. There are no payouts during the open beta.
