Your node's ISP is now detected from its connection, not your entry
TL;DR: The portal no longer asks for your ISP. Your node page, metro leaderboard and profile now show the ISP your node's address belongs to, or a dash if it isn't one we recognise yet.
You no longer need to tell us who your ISP is. The portal now works it out from the network your node connects from, and shows that everywhere your previously entered your ISP. Because it comes from one source, two spellings of the same provider, such as “GFiber” and “Google Fiber”, now show as one name.
What changes for you
- The Hardware & Connection form has no ISP field. Device category, hardware and contracted speed are still there and work as before.
- Your node page, the metro leaderboard and your operator profile all show the ISP found from your node’s network. On the metro leaderboard, the ISP line, the ISP filter and sorting by ISP all use it.
- An ISP you typed in earlier has been replaced with the one detected from your node’s network.
- Private profiles still hide the ISP on leaderboards.
Limits
- If your node’s network isn’t in our ISP list yet, a dash is shown instead of a name.
- Leaderboards and profiles update hourly, so they show the new ISP after their next refresh.
What you need to do
Nothing.
