Cache warming no longer adds to your site's request count

ChangedCDNv0.0.127

TL;DR: When a visitor's browser fetched files from a gateway in the background to warm its cache, each fetch counted as a request in your site's usage. From 22 October these fetches count only toward bandwidth, and their bytes are still counted.

A visitor’s browser may fetch files in the background for the pages your page links to, so those pages open from its cache, as described in the cache warming entry. Until now, each of those fetches served by a gateway counted as a request in your site’s usage, even though the visitor hadn’t opened the page. From 22 October, they no longer count as requests.

What changes

  • Warming fetches aren’t counted as requests. They no longer add to the requests, cache hits, origin fetches, errors or latency shown for your workspace, project or site.
  • Their bytes still count. Warming fetches add to your bandwidth and usage exactly as before.
  • Real visits count exactly as before. When a visitor opens a page, every file it loads is counted as it always was.
  • Files from operator nodes were never part of your usage, warming fetches included, so nothing changes for them.

What you need to do

Nothing.
